GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

The Seven Gifts of the Spirit, and the Nine Gifts of the Spirit — why the two lists?
The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit, the “Isaiah” gifts (Isaiah 11:2,3), are the Sanctifying Gifts of the Spirit. They build on our love for God and help sanctify us.
  Four strengthen the Intellect:
        Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, and Counsel.

  Three strengthen the Will:
Fortitude, Piety, and Fear of the Lord.
The oft-quoted Nine Spiritual Gifts listed in 1 Cor. 12 are gifts of service.
Possessing these gifts is no guarantee of holiness.   Matthew 6:22, 23 refers to certain Christians who had powerful charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit: “On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’”
